Will Strieder is Professor of Music at Texas Tech University. He is Principal Trumpet of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Second Trumpet of the Houston Ballet Orchestra, and Principal Trumpet of Santa Fe Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Strieder performs at Texas Tech with the Faculty Brass Quintet and also works with the Trumpet Choir. He studied at Northwestern University, where he received the Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance and was winner of the Northwestern Concerto Competition. He studied at the University of Houston, where he earned the Bachelor of Music in Music Education.
Mr. Strieder is active as a soloist and chamber musician, performing throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. He has performed with many prestigious groups, including the Houston Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Clear Lake Symphony, Texas Opera Theater, Society for the Performing Arts in Houston, and the Millar Brass Ensemble. He has recorded Incantations for Trumpet and Piano, Rhapsody for Solo Trumpet and Harp, and Trio Italiano, by Mary Jeanne van Appledorn, with the Opus One recording label. Mr. Strieder has also recorded Fisher Tull’s Concerto for Trumpet with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra in Nuremberg, Germany, on Albany Records. He has recently appeared twice as a soloist with UADY Chamber Orchestra of Merida, Mexico.
In addition to his teaching and performing duties at Tech, Mr. Strieder directs the School of Music’s recording program. His work includes improving equipment, streamlining editing and authoring processes, and training student assistants to record the more than 400 performances that occur annually at Texas Tech. Mr. Strieder directs the Winds and Percussion Department’s All-State Recording Project, in which audition materials for Texas small school and large school bands are recorded by Texas Tech faculty members.
The trumpet studio at Texas Tech has attracted talented students from throughout the United States, and Mr. Strieder’s students have had success in the education and performance fields. These students have been accepted into prestigious music festivals and graduate programs nationwide including Northwestern University, the Julliard School, Eastman School of Music, National Trumpet Competition, International Trumpet Guild, and University of Southern California. In addition, many of his former students are very successful in their field as public school teachers, college-level teachers, and performers at the following institutions: University of Southern California, College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University, Vanderbilt University, Wayland Baptist University, South Plains College, Lubbock Christian University, San Jacinto College, The President’s Own Marine Corp Band, Utah Symphony, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and the Army Field Band.
Mr. Strieder is an active pilot and flight instructor, and enjoys sharing the wonder of flying with others. As a former Cub Master, he is happily involved with the Cub Scouts of America, and is currently serving as Assistant Cub Master while also working with the Tiger Cubs as Den Leader. Mr. Strieder enjoys the generous love and support of his wife, Robbi, and family of four boys.
